There is a wide assortment of reusable coffee filter types, so here’s a quick explanation about how to find the right one for you.

Essentially, you need to decide what type of filter you’re looking for, based on your coffee maker. If you’re looking for a bucket, pour-over, or permanent type of coffee filter, generally, you’ll want to look for stainless steel as the main material used in the product. Stainless steel is safe for you, and the planet, especially compared to the typical plastic ones that everyone used to use.

However, if you are searching for coffee filter cloths, you’ll probably want to go for organic cotton or hemp. Some other materials may be used instead of or mixed in with cotton. As long as it isn’t something synthetic, you should be safe! Of course, you don’t have to go with organic, but if it’s an option, you may as well!

Best Way to Clean a Reusable Coffee Filter

So, you may wonder how to clean a coffee filter, more specifically, how to clean a cloth coffee filter. Metal coffee filters are pretty self-explanatory. Just wash them in the dishwasher or by hand! But with cloth, you may be able to throw them in the washing machine or just rinse them off by hand and let them dry. Always check out the specific instructions for your cloth coffee filter because the best way to clean it may vary based on the materials used. Especially with cotton, it may shrink in the wash, so if you don’t want that, you may want to wash it by hand.
