Next up is the Repose Eco-friendly Yoga Mat. Its made entirely of cork and natural rubber, with no glue, PVCs, or TPEs. What’s more, the construction of this mat involves no trees being cut down. The Repose Yoga Mat is a totally biodegradable and recyclable product, which we love! There are absolutely zero plastics used in the production or packaging of the Repose mats.

Another perk of buying the Repose yoga mat? Every purchase comes with a complimentary yoga strap for easy transportation.

The vast majority of buyers loved this mat, many specifying how helpful it was for hot yoga. The Life Energy Cork Yoga Mat is an excellent, non-slip mat made of cork and TPE. The company even boasts about it being 100% non-toxic, sustainable, and recyclable.

We love the 5mm thickness of this mat. It allows for maximum comfort and support, especially for anyone who has lots of joint pain.

An added perk is the additional yoga strap that comes with purchasing the Life Energy Cork Mat. These are pretty handy for anyone who travels to yoga classes and wants a simple way to transport their mat.

One of our favorite things about this mat is the low price! Cork mats tend to be expensive, so this is a real treat for cork lovers.

5. Gurus Natural Cork Yoga Mat

The best cork yoga mat for travel

GURU Yoga Mat

Brand: Gurus / Length & Width: 72” x 25” / Thickness: 4mm / Price: 💰💰💰

The Gurus Natural Cork Mat is made of cork on top and TPE on the bottom. The cork naturally develops more grip as soon as it’s wet, so Gurus suggests you spritz your mat before use (assuming you aren’t sweaty already).

A great aspect of this mat is how lightweight it is, weighing in at just over 2lbs! This makes the Guru an ideal mat for anyone who likes to do yoga on the go.

Our very favorite thing about this mat? Gurus is partnered with Trees For The Future, so they plant a tree for every purchase made. This is what makes this one of our top eco-friendly cork yoga mats.

The vast majority of buyers loved this mat. They especially appreciated the incredible grip the cork provides, and they loved how natural the mat smelled. 6. Yoga Design Lab Cork Yoga Mat

The best non-slip cork yoga mat

Yoga Design Yoga Mat

Brand: Yoga Design Lab / Length & Width: 70″ x 24″ / Thickness: 3.5mm / Price: 💰💰💰💰

The Yoga Design Lab Cork Yoga Mat is another fantastic eco-friendly option. It’s made of biodegradable natural cork and rubber, and the inks used for the design on the top are entire;y water-based. As you might expect, this mat is free from toxic chemicals.

One beautiful and helpful thing about this mat is the design printed onto the cork. It is exceptionally pleasing to the eye, but it also is perfectly symmetrical. This is incredibly helpful to yogis who want to be sure of their hand and foot placement in various poses. Despite this, most would love the design solely for how aesthetically pleasing it is, but you can’t deny the convenience of its symmetry.

As a bonus, you’ll receive a free carrying strap with your purchase of one yoga mat. As you can see from the rest of the list, this is pretty common with online cork yoga mat purchases. It is nevertheless a welcome addition to the purchase.

Yoga Design Lab suggests cleaning your yoga mat with natural soap and water. This keeps your mat fresh, clean, and will prolong its lifespan.

While buyers enjoyed the mat overall, there were only a couple of issues buyers noted. Namely, the mat smells like natural rubber (although this fades over time), and the corners tend to roll up for some users.

This is the priciest cork yoga mat on our list. Despite this, the quality of this cork mat is hard to argue, and its impeccable design is impossible to find for a lower price.

  • It’s very durable
  • It has excellent grip
  • The mat is exquisite

  • Corners of the mat want to roll up
  • The mat may smell a bit rubbery, but it goes away after some airing-out

What to Look for in Cork Yoga Mats

Cork yoga mats are fairly straightforward products. You only need to consider a few different features when it comes to their functionality.

1. Padding

Most yoga mats come in at about 3-4mm in height. This is plenty for most users, as too much padding can negatively affect balance.

On the flip side, if the mat is too thin, that can cause discomfort for the elderly, or anyone with weak, painful joints. In this case, it’s best to get a thicker mat, such as a 5mm one.

2. Durability

The last thing you want is a yoga mat that starts breaking down after only a few uses. Generally, with a quick browse through buyer’s reviews, you can quickly discover if the mat in question will withstand the test of time.

3. Grip

Perhaps the number one thing to look for when buying a yoga mat is the grip. You can’t very easily do yoga poses if you’re slipping all over your mat, right? So always, always make sure that the mat you’re buying has good reviews on the product’s grip. You could save yourself from a painful faceplant.
